Champion's Trophy: Pakistan To Take On West Indies

Pakistan will play its first match of Champions Trophy against West Indies Today.

Pakistan have never won the Champions Trophy being played for the last time. Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq says that the team combination is the best and they will enter the ground with great confidence.

Addressing a press conference, he said victory against the West Indies would be vital for his side. He said they had devised special strategy to overcome master-blaster Chirs Gayle. “I hope our strategy will work,” he added.

Won’t Go Abroad For Treatment : Imran Khan



Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan said he was recovering fast and would not be going abroad for a medical treatment.

Imran Khan said he only required a little more rest before he could attend National Assembly.
In a Twitter message from @ImranKhanPTI, Imran Khan said: “I am recovering fast and will not be going abroad for medical treatment. A little more rest reqd before I attend NA InshaAllah.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan had been discharged from Shaukat Khanum Hospital days ago after treatment of his injuries he received from a fall from a makeshift lift during a public rally in Lahore on May 7.

In another Tweet the PTI Chief said he had held a meeting on Saturday with his party’s Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak.
He reiterated that PTI government would fulfill its commitment to end VIP culture and end corruption in the province.

The Tweet reads: “Met CM Khattak yesterday. PTI's govt in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa will fulfill all PTI commitments incl ending VIP culture/corruption InshaAllah.”

Newly Elected MNA's Take Oath


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan underwent its first democratic transition of power when newly elected parliamentarians of the 14th National Assembly took oath , Today.

The session as well as the oath-taking ceremony was marred by a two-hour delay after the scheduled time of 10 am.

The outgoing Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza administered oath to 301 newly elected MNAs. She is the second speaker who has been elected again as member National Assembly after Gohar Ayyub.
The nomination papers for the offices of speaker and deputy speaker will be submitted till 12 noon on June

2.On June 3, the process to elect the speaker will take place after which Dr Fehmida Mirza will take oath from the new speaker. After the transfer of authority to the newly elected speaker, selection of deputy speaker will take place.Both the elections will be done through secret ballot.
Nomination papers for the position of chief minister (leader of the house) will be submitted till 2 pm on June

4. The new prime minister will be elected by dividing the house on June 5.
The session was later adjourned and will resume at 11 am on Monday.

In a unique turn of events in the history of the country a smooth transition of power has taken place for the first time by a civilian government.

The 13th National Assembly (2008-13) had completed its five years term that too for the first time in the democratic history of Pakistan.

President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif set foot in the National Assembly after 14 years.

Special cards had been issued to high-level civil and military officials, diplomats, and important personalities to witness the maiden session of National Assembly.

The security staff of the Parliament was present at the gates of the parliament to receive the newly elected MNAs after the identification, while elaborate security measures had been ensured within the building of Parliament.

The National Assembly hall has been refurbished for the newly elected members of Lower House. The MNAs elect have been allotted seats as per Urdu alphabetical order. Parliamentary leaders have been allotted seats in front rows.


The total strength of the august House is 342 where 272 are filled with direct elections, while 60 seats are reserved for women and 10 for the religious minorities.

Ali Haider Gilani’s Kidnappers Gang Chief Arrested


The gang chief of the kidnappers of Ali Haider Gilani, the son of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has been arrested.

Police said that an operation was launched in Charsadda for the recovery of Ali Haider Gilani, which resulted in the arrest of the kidnappers’ gang chief, Wazir, while entering into Mardan from Charsadda and trying to escape to Afghanistan.

Accused Wazir is an Afghan refugee and was wanted by police for being involved in several criminal incidents and he has now been shifted to an unknown place for grilling.

Imran Khan Nominates Pervez Khatak As Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister


Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has approved Pervez Khatak’s name for the slot of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister.

PTI spokesman Shireen Mazari said that Mr Khan had given approval after consultation with party leaders.

PTI’s KPK President Assad Qaisar and newly elected MPA Atif Khan were also running for the slot of the KPK chief minister after the PTI emerged as the largest party in the province on May 11 polls.

Sherry Rehman Steps Down As Pakistan Envoy To US




Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, Sherry Rehman, has resigned as Pakistani ambassador to Washington with immediate effect mostly owing to the fact that her appointment was a political one .

Sources privy to the matters confirmed her resignation quoting Pakistani embassy in Washington.
Rehman has sent her resignation to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso.
President Asif Ali Zardari had handpicked her for the slot. She was appointed as envoy to US on 
November 23. Rehman 2011 succeeding Husain Haqqani.

Before her appointment in Pakistan's US embassy, she was serving as federal minister for information and broadcasting. Rehman held that office from March 2008 until March 2009.
Back in the day, Rehman's appointment, came as a surprise, for then commentators were expecting a apolitical figure having warm ties with Pakistan's powerful army.

Rehman, who had been a strong advocate of women’s and minority rights faced death threats for her calls to reform the blasphemy laws in Pakistan.

She served as an Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from 2002 to 2007, where she acted as Central Information Secretary. During this time, she was also President of Policy Planning for the PPPP and served on the party's Foreign Relations Committee.

In March 2008, Rehman was re-appointed by declaration as MNA for Sindh province to the reserved MNA seat for women. Prime Minister Yusuf Gilani appointed her Minister for Information and Broadcasting, and on 31 March 2008 she was sworn in by President Pervez Musharraf.

During her tenure in parliament, Rehman authored all five PPP bills tabled in the National Assembly: the Women Empowerment Bill, Anti-Honor Killings Bill, Domestic Violence Prevention Bill, Affirmative Action Bill and Hudood Repeal Bill. She also moved two bills concerning the media: the Freedom of Information Bill and the Press Act, which prevents working journalists from being arrested under the 1999 Press Ordinance.

In civil society, Rehman is the Chair of the Lady Dufferin Foundation Trust, reportedly the largest non-profit provider of women and children's subsidised healthcare in the province of Sindh.
In January 2009, a report of the International Republican Institute referred to her as "Democracy's Hero" as a result of her close association with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's campaign for democratic rule in Pakistan. The reference, picked up by several Pakistani media outlets, received mixed coverage.In the same month, Rehman was named among the "100 Most Influential Asians" by UAE magazine Ahlan.

Rehman resigned her post as Information Minister on 14 March 2009, due to differences of opinion with the President Asif Ali Zardari on imposing restrictions on the media.

In 2013, Rehman was accused of commiting "blasphemy, a crime that carries the death penalty" in Pakistan, "in connection with a 2010 TV talk show." She was accused by Muhammad Faheem Gill, who went to the Pakistan "Supreme Court with his complaint after police refused to register it. The court ordered police in the central Pakistani city of Multan to investigate."

Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood Resigns As Governor Punjab


LAHORE: Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood has resigned from his position .

According to sources, PPP leader and Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood resigned after his party faced defeat in the May 11 elections.

He said that he has resigned on moral grounds and will stay away from parliamentary politics.

PTI Sit-In Continues For Second Day In Lahore



LAHORE: Demanding a fair reelection in NA-122-125 in Lahore, Pakistan Terhreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters are holding onto their protest demonstrations against alleged massive vote rigging.

A multitude of young PTI supporters from NA-125 gathered around 4pm on Sunday at Ghazi Chowk blocked the main road for all traffic.

The protesters were demanding fresh polls in the said constituencies.

At that occasion, supporters of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N ) also gathered there and demonstrators of both the parties started chanting slogans against each other. Scuffles among the PTI and PML-N supporters were also witnessed at times.

Heavy contingents of security forces reached the venue and baton charged the protesters. PTI fans and supporters said that the sit-in will continue until their demand of fresh polls is not met.
PTI loyalists said that according to early unofficial results, Imran Khan and Hamid Khan from NA-122 and NA-125 respectively leading with a great margin but later ECP declared them as losers.

PTI protestors accused PML-N candidate Malik Pervez of blackjacking the returning officers into manipulating voting results to Saad Rafiqe's favour.

It may also be mentioned that similar protests are also underway in Karachi areas where demonstrators are demanding fair re-elections in Karachi.

A large number of PTI cohorts predominantly women converged at Teen Talwar area of Clifton Sunday evening to register their protest against what they called the most outrageous manipulation of votes in the history of Pakistan.

Chanting slogans against the riggers protestors are demanding of the Election Commission of Pakistan to investigate this “PTI mandate theft” without delay. They added that the protest would continue until the ECP took effective action.

They alleged that hundreds of illegal votes were cast at gunpoint at many polling stations.

Ali Haider Gilani Kidnapped From PPP Meeting In Multan



MULTAN: Unidentified armed men kidnapped Ali Haider Gilani, son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani from a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) corner meeting in Multan .

According to details, armed men opened fire in the meeting and injured five people including Ali Haider’s secretary Mohiuddin, who later succumbed to injuries.

Police said Ali Haider Gilani was taken in a black Honda City. The kidnappers came on motorcycles and had the car with them. Entry and exit points of the city have been sealed.

The brother of Ali Haider, Ali Musa Gilani said they would not let elections take place in Multan if their brother was not recovered.

Fire Erupts At LDA Plaza In Lahore



LAHORE: A fierce fire erupted at the seventh floor of LDA Plaza, located at Egerton road , media reported.

Nearly five fire brigade vehicles are busy in dousing the inferno that engulfed other parts of the building.

Commissioner Lahore has confirmed that 25 people are trapped in the building.
Helicopter has also been called in to rescue the people.

Imran Khan To Address Last Rally From Hospital


Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan will address the last election rally of Islamabad through video link from his hospital room where he is currently being treated for his back and head injury, Media Reported.

According to sources, the doctors treating the PTI leader at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital have allowed him restricted movements due to which it is not possible for Imran to address the rally from the venue. Therefore, it was resolved that he will address the last gathering at D-Chowk through video link.

The preparations for the rally are in full swing in Islamabad where others PTI leaders including Javed Hashmi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Shirin Mazari will also address.
Imran Khan was shifted to a private room from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Earlier while briefing the media, Dr Faisal Sultan who is treating Khan said the PTI chairman will remain on bed rest for two to three days. Dr Sultan further said that Khan had not received a skull fracture and is quickly recovering.

The CT scan revealed a series of fractures to Khan's spine, one in his neck, another in a rib and an injury to his scalp. But Sultan stressed that Khan's spinal canal was intact and "he is in total control of all limbs and body functions".

Imran Khan ruled out any conspiracy behind the ‘accident’ and told that his bulletproof vest had protected him from serious back injury.

Imran Khan was injured when he fell from a makeshift lift during an election rally in Lahore on Tuesday.

Elections 2013: Educational Institutions To Remain Closed


Government of Pakistan has declared public holiday on May 11 when the polling will be held across the country while educational institutions will also remain closed, media reported.

In the backdrop of elections on May 11, private and government educational institutions throughout Punjab and Sindh will remain closed from May 8 to 11 while a notification has also been issued.

It said that due to the training of the teachers and their duties during the elections, the institutions will remain shut.

The Balochistan government has also announced holidays from May 9 to 11 in the educational institutions.
